Getting connected

DualMac can't find my Mac

For classic VNC: enable System Settings → General → Sharing → Screen Sharing on the Mac, and make sure iPad and Mac are on the same network. For remote use, both devices must be on your own private network (for example the same Tailscale tailnet) — DualMac never exposes your Mac to the open Internet.

Step by step, with screenshots and fixes for a refused password: Turn on Screen Sharing on your Mac and connect from iPad.

What does the Companion add, and do I need it?

The optional Companion app, used with Tailscale on both devices, adds low-latency H.264 streaming, clipboard and file transfer, wake controls and display selection. You don't need it for classic VNC screen sharing.

Pairing with the Companion fails

Check that the Companion is running (menu bar icon), that both devices are signed into the same Tailscale tailnet, and that the pairing code was confirmed on the Mac. Other source addresses are refused by design.

Does DualMac work on iPhone Duo?

Yes. It runs today with its iPhone layout, open or closed, and connects the same way as on iPhone: Screen Sharing on the Mac, and both devices on the same network or the same Tailscale tailnet. A full-screen update that gives the open iPhone Duo the same layout as iPad is in preparation.

Privacy

Is my screen sent to DualMac's servers?

No — we have none. Your screen, files and clipboard travel directly between your iPad and your Mac. See the privacy policy.

Data deletion

DualMac has no Marius Labs account or content backend. Before uninstalling, remove each Mac from the library and disable any iCloud sync you enabled. Apple Keychain or iCloud data can outlive an uninstall. Questions: support@dualmac.app.
