For classic VNC: enable System Settings → General → Sharing → Screen Sharing on the Mac, and make sure iPad and Mac are on the same network. For remote use, both devices must be on your own private network (for example the same Tailscale tailnet) — DualMac never exposes your Mac to the open Internet.
The free Companion app adds low-latency H.264 streaming, clipboard and file transfer, wake controls and agent supervision. You don't need it for classic VNC screen sharing.
Check that the Companion is running (menu bar icon), that both devices are on the same private network, and that the pairing code was confirmed on the Mac. Connections from outside your private network are refused by design.
Agent features require: the Companion installed on the Mac, the Claude Code and/or Codex CLI installed and signed in on that Mac, and agent sharing explicitly enabled in the Companion (it's off by default). Session control is a second, separate opt-in.
No. DualMac supervises the tools you already installed on your Mac, running under your own Anthropic / OpenAI accounts. DualMac is not affiliated with either provider and sells no AI service.
No — we have none. Everything travels directly between your iPad, your Mac, and (for agent runs) the AI providers your own CLIs talk to. See the privacy policy.
DualMac has no accounts and stores nothing on our side. Deleting the app from your iPad removes its local data and Keychain entries; trashing the Companion removes it from your Mac. Questions: support@dualmac.app.
